What's it all about?

One of the true greats of British musical theatre, Tommy Steele makes a glorious return to the role of fiction's most famous meanie Ebeneezer Scrooge, which he first played in 2003 and has since made his own. Scrooge is playing through the autumn and all across Christmas too.

Steele's a magnificent mix of mirth and misanthropy as Ebeneezer in this energetic take on Dickens' A Christmas Carol. With a script based on the classic 1970 film musical Scrooge and Leslie Bricusse's brilliant, Oscar-nominated score from the film at its heart, this show is a perfect festive-season theatre treat for all ages.

If the Ghost of Where-To-Take-The-Family-For-Christmas has come around to haunt you, you know what to do. But be warned: the liklihood of you singing 'Thank You Very Much' incessantly for days - if not weeks - after seeing Scrooge is considerable.

What's the story?

Unless you've been locked in the poorhouse for the last hundred years or so, you'll be well acquainted with Charles Dickens' archetypal Christmas story about the world's meanest, most miserly businessman Ebeneezer Scrooge, his decent-but-downtrodden clerk Bob Cratchit, and Cratchit's sickly little boy Tiny Tim.

It's Christmas. Snow begins to fall upon the eaves of Victorian London, which doesn't bode well for the already perilously-ill Tiny Tim. Scrooge refuses to grant Cratchit leave or offer help or understanding of any kind. Friendless, completely alone in his meanness and misery, Scrooge retires to his room.

But before he can surrender to the merciful oblivion of sleep, he's called upon by the first of three ghosts, who spirit him away from his bed and show him how his life will be if he continues along his selfish path...

One of the greatest, most uplifting stories of redemption is now a wonderful family musical on the London stage.

Who's in it?

A Brit entertainment multi-tasker for more than half a century, Tommy Steele is a bona-fide household name, and as much a part of the cultural furniture as The Changing of the Guard or The Haywain.

In the hard-to-believe-it's-that-long ago time that was 1956, the chirpy lad who'd been born Thomas Hicks became the first of the UK's homegrown rock 'n' rollers to have a hit record, with 'Rock With The Caveman'.

Riding out the craze for rock, Steele successfully reinvented himself as an all-round entertainer, notching up movie hits through the '50s and '60s with The Tommy Steele Story, Tommy The Toreador and, memorably, Half A Sixpence and Finian's Rainbow.

A peerless song-and-dance man, in 1983 Steele directed and starred in the original West End production of current hit Singin' In The Rain. In 1991 he toured the UK in an adaptation of another Hollwood screen classic, Some Like It Hot.

In 2003 he played the lead in Scrooge at the Palladium for the first time. He's reprised the role on several occasions since then, and this year's production is shaping up to be his best showing yet.

Who is Scrooge suitable for?

Scrooge is a great family show starring a consummate family entertainer. Leslie Bricusse's endlessly hummable songs are guaranteed to provide a source of shared singalong familial jollity for yonks.

As such, you can feel at liberty to hustle your entire brood en masse to the tinselled doorstep of the London Palladium without fear of offence, mishap or any other form of humbug.

We thoroughly enjoyed the show, brilliant cast, Tommy Steele is amazing!

absolutely brilliant

Despite this being the final show of the run, the cast didn't show any signs of being tired, with their enthusiasm still evident. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and were most pleased to see Tommy Steele again after last enjoying seeing him in " Some Like it Hot" today has shown us that his longevity is fully justified as he gave us his all in the resurrection of the role. All in all a very good night out.
