What's it all about?

Based on the hit movie of the same name, Made In Dagenham is a brand-new comedy musical starring one of Britain's brightest, most beautiful screen and stage stars, Gemma Arterton.

Best known for high-profile roles in Quantum of Solace, Tamara Drewe, Prince Of Persia, The Disappearance Of Alice Creed and other major movies, she's fresh from acclaim in The Duchess of Malfi at Shakespeare's Globe.

This rousing production is directed by Rupert Goold, Artistic Director of the Almeida Theatre, and director of West End hits American Psycho, Oliver! and Enron.

The script is by One Man, Two Guvnors' Richard Bean, and the music is furnished by David Arnold, famed for his scores for the James Bond movies, as well as Independence Day, Little Britain and Sherlock.

What's the story?

It's 1968, and the Ford auto factory in Dagenham is one of the largest private employers in Britain. In addition to its thousands of male workers, it employs 187 underpaid women machinists who assemble car seat upholstery in lousy working conditions.

Shop steward Rita O'Grady joins with union rep Albert Passingham to get a better deal for them, but discovers there's more to the dispute than she realised: women are paid a fraction of the men's wages for the same work.

Refusing to put up with it, Rita leads a strike by for equal pay, and a grinding labour and political struggle follows that will ultimately advance the cause of women's rights around the world.

Who's in it?

Gemma Arterton landed her first professional role in Stephen Poliakoff's TV drama Capturing Mary while still studying at RADA in 2007.

She appeared in the big-screen St. Trinian's the same year, and had her big break in 2008 when she appeared in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace.

Since then she's chalked up memorable screen roles in Prince Of Persia, The Disappearance Of Alice Creed and Tamara Drewe, and recently appeared at Shakespeare's Globe in The Duchess Of Malfi.
