Donald Gordon Theatre, Cardiff, Cardiff
The Donald Gordon Theatre is a 1,900 seated venue located within the recently built Wales Millennium Centre (affectionately known as the 'Armadillo' by locals). It may also be one of the few theatres in the UK to have a built-in hostel.
Originally conceived as a Cardiff Opera House, the Wales Millennium Centre (or Canolfan Mileniwm Cymru) became a way to liven up Cardiff's waterfront as a multi-purpose entertainment venue when it opened in 2004. Within it stands the Donald Gordon Theatre, which has hosted numerous touring musicals and plays in the last few years.
The inscription on the building in Welsh says "Creu Gwir Fel Gwydr O Ffwrnais Awen" which means "creating truth like glass from the furnace of inspiration". The English words say "In These Stones Horizons Sing".
