What's it all about?

If everything on your radio is sending you Ga Ga and you’re desperate to break free of bad boy bands, it’s definitely time you let this awesome Queen musical work its kind of magic on you.

Awarded an Olivier in 2010 for most popular show and currently playing all over the globe, We Will Rock You is one of the funniest, most thought-provoking nights you’ll ever spend in the theatre, with fantastic costumes and futuristic sets – but, most of all, brilliant music that is sure to have you in (Bohemian) rhapsodies.

What's the story?

As fascinating as it would be to find out more about Freddie Mercury, We Will Rock You isn’t a musical about Queen. Instead, you’ll join rebels Galileo and his on-off girl Scaramouche on iPlanet some time in the distant future, when the world is controlled by a global corporation, conformity is the norm and, worst of all, musical instruments have been banned.

Can the Bohemians defeat the Killer Queen and get planet Earth rocking again or will they get brain-drained and bite the dust? There’s only one way you’ll find out.

Who's in it?

There’s no shortage of high voltage performances with so many great singers involved. Oliver Tompsett (Wicked) plays our hero Galileo with Rachael Wooding (Jersey Boys) as his love interest Scaramouche.

Other faces you might recognise in We Will Rock You are Brenda Edwards (X Factor) as the Killer Queen and Kevin Kennedy as Pop – a real rock star, having started out in a little band called The Smiths.

And it’s just as well the cast is good because otherwise they’d all be, ahem, under pressure. Luckily, we think you’ll agree their renditions of 'Radio Ga Ga', 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love', 'Bohemian Rhapsody', 'We Are the Champions' and, of course, 'We Will Rock You' – among many others – are a knock-out.

Who is We Will Rock You suitable for?

With a tongue-in-cheek script by comedian Ben Elton and some of the best riffs in the world, pretty much everyone will come out of We Will Rock You feeling like a champion of the world.

But just in case you’re still not sure, you might be interested to know that some of the world’s biggest stars have already beaten you to it. Among the growing list of famous faces who’ve seen it are singers Beyoncé, Britney and Robbie and actors Michael Caine, Matt Lucas and Judi Dench. So now you know you’ll be in good company, what are you waiting for?

We Will Rock You reviews - Theatre People staff

We Will Rock You is a dream for anyone who loves Queen's music and a big spectacle. The production is very visual and has an enormous cast who belt out all of the famous Queen hits. Definitely a good musical for a night out with friends.

The music was the best aspect, all the Queen classics. The Killer Queen singing was thoroughly entertaining. The sets were bright and created the scenes well. The dancers were excellent and the costume choice was unique.

I love this show! I love everything: the rebels' beautiful futuristic costumes, the stunning voices of the singers and the legendary music of Queen. This show is a perfect mix between dance, songs and story so for me it is a real MUSICAL! It's a great show for non-native English speakers too, because the dialogue is really easy to understand.

A great show for family entertainment, second only to Lion King in our opinion. Enjoyed by all the family from age 8 to 50, out girl and boy, we loved the costumes, stage sets and music. The lead singer was awesome, and character names memorable, meat, Brit, Cliff etc. We had great seats in the second row of the stalls and people seems to be joining in more than in the circle. We would n't see again as there are so many other shows to see.

Did You Know?

Before he got down to work on the show with the band’s guitarist Brian May, Queen drummer Roger Taylor wasn’t keen on the idea. “Musicals are completely foreign to me,” he said. “It's a genre I don't particularly like.” Fortunately, he changed his mind and has been heavily involved in both London and touring versions ever since.

Interestingly, the show’s writer Ben Elton says he’s already created a sequel, using a further 20 Queen hits. But you’ll have to wait a while because he doesn’t think London can take two Queen musicals at once.

Two people who might disagree with that are Kevin Morrissey and Julie Daw, who travelled to Vegas to see the show on their honeymoon. It was their 61st and 42nd times respectively.
