What's it all about?
The Wintershall Nativity is a beautifully entertaining play for everyone, as well as a gentle reminder of the Christian principles which serve as guidelines for so many peoples' lives: love, kindness, care for all, patience and forgiveness.
This wonderful production takes place both inside and around the Holly Barn Theatre at Wintershall, a huge rural estate of mature woodland and farmland that's a haven for wildlife.
In recent years the estate has become famous for staging unique, grand-scale plays such as this one that sometimes utilise hundreds of performers and spread out over the full expanse of the estate.
What's the story?
Complete with real shepherds and sheep, oxen, donkeys and the three wise men on horseback, the Wintershall Nativity tells the story of the birth of Jesus and brings to life the real meaning of Christmas.
It offers an escape from daily turmoil and substitutes spirituality for commercialism. Plus, the 'inn' opens for tea, coffee, mince pies and more one hour before each 90-minute performance.
Who's in it?
A cast of 50 and a choir and musicians perform to a 600-strong audience at each performance.
Who is The Wintershall Nativity suitable for?
This production is unlike any other Nativity play you will ever see, and is a lovely, life-affirming experience. You don't have to be a Christian to appreciate and enjoy it, and it will provide a source of peace and wonderment to audience members of all ages.
