What's it all about?

As part of New Adventures’ 25th anniversary celebration, Matthew Bourne’s Play Without Words is revived for the first time since its premiere at the National Theatre in 2002. You can now catch it for four weeks only at Sadler's Wells. Designer Lez Brotherston and lighting designer Paule Constable repeat their Olivier-nominated work and Terry Davies’ acclaimed jazz influenced score will be played live at all performances.

Suitable for

If you loved Matthew Bourne's modern interpretations of Cinderella, Swan Lake or the Nutcracker, you'll already be aware that his work is something truly special. However even if you haven't seen other contemporary and clever works of his, let this one be your first, set in the Swinging Sixties.

What's the story?

It's not called 'Play Without Words' for nothing, as all the story here is told through dance. Set in a stylish 1960s Chelsea home, master of the house and his fiancee welcome a new servant. This dynamic weaves a tale of struggle for power, territory and sexual domination. Sexy, chic and thrillingly original, this dance drama is a spellbinding carnival of seduction and intrigue.

What the critics say

A vibrant, wicked satire of class conflict and sexual desire set in Swinging Sixties London and told exclusively through movement and music
