What's it all about?

Director Rufus Norris’s 2006 production of Kander and Ebb’s classic musical Cabaret won a deluge of critical acclaim and two Olivier Awards. If you missed it, now’s your chance to find out what all the fuss was about.

Norris has returned with a re-imagining of his hit show, bringing raw sensuality to the tale of nightclub performer Sally Bowles and the patrons of the Kit Kat Club in decadent 1930s Berlin.

Singing superstar Will Young takes on the role of the Kit Kat Club’s enigmatic Emcee alongside Michelle Ryan as Sally Bowles.

As well as enjoying this inspired pairing you’ll experience show-stopping choreography, dazzling costumes and some of the best (and best known) songs in all of musical theatre, including Money Makes the World Go Round, Maybe This Time and, of course, title song Cabaret.

What's the story?

Berlin, 1931. The Nazis are beginning their rise to power, and In the seedy Kit Kat Klub,  young American writer Cliff Bradshaw is drawn into a poignant love affair with a 19-year-old English cabaret performer, Sally Bowles.

The drama of their love plays out beneath the ever-present gaze of the mysterious Emcee of the Kit Kat Club, which serves as a symbol of the oppression and excess of Germany's Weimar Republic.

Who's in it?

Cabaret stars Will Young in the role of the Emcee, made famous by Joel Grey in the classic 1972 movie version of the show. Since winning the first series of Pop Idol in 2002, Young has remained one of the UK’s most popular music artists, selling over 9 million albums.

Following his widely praised stage acting debut in Noël Coward’s The Vortex at the Manchester Royal Exchange, Cabaret is Will’s introduction as a new star of musical theatre.

Bringing grace and physical presence to the role of Sally Bowles, you know Michelle Ryan best for her TV roles as Zoe Slater in EastEnders and Jaime Sommers in The Bionic Woman.

Michelle has been working with a singing coach for the past two years in preparation for a singing role in forthcoming film The Man Inside. It’s served her well for her star turn as Sally. "When Cabaret came along,” she says, “I was ready.”

Who is Cabaret suitable for?

Cabaret is an electrifyingly energetic musical, but it’s built around adult themes that may not be appropriate fare for less sophisticated young audiences. Rufus Norris’ visual feast of a production is quite frank in its presentation of sexuality and features some nudity. This element of the show is integral and stylish. But if you’re squeamish about such things then it may not be for you.
