What's it all about?
Green Day's explosive, award-winning Broadway musical American Idiot, will get its premiere in the UK in 2012 with a major national tour featuring a thrilling American tour cast, and it's first stop in Scotland is Edinburgh.
The story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9-11 world, American Idiot features the music of Green Day with the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong.
Its hit songs include 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams', '21 Guns', 'Wake Me Up When September Ends', 'Holiday' and the blockbuster title track 'American Idiot' from Green Day's 2004 Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum album. Also included are several songs from Green Day's 2009 release '21st Century Breakdown' and an unreleased love song, 'When It's Time'.
Winner of two Tony Awards and the 2010 Grammy Award winner for Best Musical Show Album, American Idiot premiered at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in September 2009. In April 2010, the musical opened on Broadway where reviews were unanimously positive and it ran for over a year.
What's the story?
Friends Johnny, Will and Tunny are living in Jingletown, USA, fed up and disillusioned with 21st century life in America. Each of them tries to rediscover their passion - Johnny falls in love but has to fight the temptation of drugs and alter-ego St Jimmy; Will becomes a father and must prove his worth to his girlfriend, while Tunny enlists in the army and in the face of wartime hopelessness finds an 'Extraordinary Girl' - but will the three rediscover their purpose in the end, or forever be doomed to become American Idiots?
Who's in it?
The all-American cast includes Alex Nee, Thomas Hettrick, Alyssa DiPalma, Jenna Rubaii, Kennedy Caughell and Trent Saunders who reprise their roles from the US run of the explosive musical.

Green Day fans will clearly be in for a treat seeing the band's music dramatised on stage, but any rock music fans who are looking for their next Rock of Ages or We Will Rock You will certainly find it in American Idiot.
