Beverley Knight (pictured) and Tristan Gemmill join the cast of The Bodyguard at the West End’s Adelphi Theatre from September 9.

Soul-singer Knight will be making her West End debut as pop diva Rachel Marron. Gemmill will star in the title-role of her bodyguard, ex-Secret Service man Frank Farmer. They are replacing Heather Headley and Lloyd Owen who originated the principal roles when the musical opened last December.

Three times nominated for Best Female at the Brit Awards and twice nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, Knight has sold over a million albums in the UK since releasing her debut album in 1995. She has shared the stage with stars including Prince and Stevie Wonder and performed at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Best-known for his television role as Casualty’s Dr Adam Trueman, Gemmill’s stage credits include A Streetcar Named Desire at Theatre Clwyd and Dangerous Corner for Chichester Festival Theatre.

Based on the 1992 romantic thriller film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, The Bodyguard follows Rachel’s career and the love that blossoms between her and Frank Farmer who is hired after the singer’s life is threatened by an unknown stalker.
