Musical theatre lovers will rejoice at the announcement that a new digital radio station devoted to their favourite genre is set to launch later this year.
The station, called Stage Door, has a mooted November launch date and will feature music, news and backstage gossip. Among its roster of presenters will be West End leading lights including Louise Dearman and Alex Gaumond (pictured).
Having identified a niche in the market for a radio station dedicated to musical theatre, Stage Door’s co-creators Wise Buddah and Mothership Management will initially roll it out online for musical theatre fans in the UK and US.
A campaign is being launched via crowd-funding platform Indiegogo to raise money for the station. Supporters can pledge money to help reach a target of £145,000, which will cover the first year of Stage Door’s running costs.
Gaumond’s West End credits include Top Hat at the Aldwych Theatre and We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre. He is set to join the London cast of Matilda at the Cambridge Theatre in the role of Miss Trunchbull on 3 September.
