James McAvoy (left) takes the title role of the doomed Scottish king in director Jamie Lloyd's production of Shakespeare's darkest tragedy. The opening play of the Trafalgar Transformed season, it will take place in the Studios' newly reconfigured auditorium.
McAvoy will be joined by Claire Foy (right) as Lady Macbeth, with Jamie Ballard as Macduff, Graeme Dalling as Donalbain, Lisa Gardner, Allison McKenzie and Olivia Morgan as Witches, Kevin Guthrie as Lennox, Richard Hansell as Ross, Forbes Masson as Banquo, Catherine Murray as Caithness, Callum O'Neill as Angus, Mark Quartley as Malcolm and Hugh Ross as Duncan/Doctor.
McAvoy has attained a high profile recently thanks to acclaimed screen work in movies including The Last King of Scotland, Atonement, and X-Men First Class.
Foy is best known for playing the title role in the BBC One production of Little Dorrit, Anna in the 2011 film Season of the Witch, and Erin Matthews in the Channel 4 series The Promise.
Macbeth's design is by Soutra Gilmour, winner of the 2012 Evening Standard award for Best Design for Inadmissible Evidence at the Donmar Warehouse, which was also directed by Lloyd.
