The Dominion Theatre's ever-popular Queen musical We Will Rock You has its 4000th performance on 20 September. It's also getting an injection of fresh blood on 8 October, when Oliver Tompsett (pictured) and Rachael Wooding take over the respective lead roles of Galileo and Scaramouche. The duo will replace the outgoing Noel Sullivan and Lauren Samuels.
Tompsett is best known for playing Fiyero in the Apollo Victoria's Wicked from 2006 - 2010. He made his West End debut in Our House at the Cambridge Theatre in 2002, and his other Theatreland credits include Christmas In New York at the Apollo Theatre, Mamma Mia! at the Prince of Wales Theatre and the role of Drew in Rock Of Ages at the Shaftesbury Theatre, which he originated.
Wooding has in fact 'Rocked You' previously: she played Meat in the show during 2006-07. She recently played Mary Delgado in Jersey Boys at the Prince Edward Theatre and the lead role in the UK tour of Evita. Among her other credits are Saturday Night Fever and Hairspray.
WWRY's producer / ambassador, Queen's Brian May, waxed lyrical about the two new stars of the show, which celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this year.
"We're very excited to welcome our two new leading stars to We Will Rock You," he said. "We had had our eye on Olly Tompsett for a while, always thinking he would make a great Galileo. Rachael Wooding is an old and respected friend and was great in the role of Meat. We had always hoped that she would return one day and take on Scara. Oliver and Rachael will be an explosive combination."
The two actors join long-standing cast members Brenda Edwards as Killer Queen, Kevin Kennedy as Pop, Rachel John as Meat, Wayne Robinson as Britney and Alisdair Harvey as Khashoggi.
