As previously reported, the Adelphi Theatre's hit adaptation of romantic screen thriller The Bodyguard scores a major casting coup as of 9 September, when Brit-soul legend Beverley Knight takes over the lead role of imperiled pop diva Rachel Marron.
As far as we're concerned here at TP, there could be no better choice than the prodigiously talented Ms Knight to step into the part made famous by the late, lamented Whitney Houston. She'll perform alongside fellow Bodyguard newcomer Tristan Gemmill, who takes the role of Frank Farmer.
A self-confessed Whitney fan since her teens, million-selling vocalist Knight is making her West End debut in the show. If proof were needed that she intends to pour every ounce of her own distinctive, explosive vocal talent into its song score of wall-to-wall hits, here it is - your first chance to see and hear Beverley Knight perform one of the show's standout numbers, I Have Nothing.
Based on the 1992 movie starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, The Bodyguard charts the love-under-fire relationship that blossoms between pop superstar Rachel Marron and ex-Secret Service man Frank Farmer, who is hired to protect the singer after her life is threatened by an unseen stalker.
